Muna Al Jundi
Wealth and Personal Banking Programme Graduate
When I graduated in 2023 with a degree in Visual Communications, I found myself at a crossroads. While I loved the creative process of graphic design, I wasn’t sure it was the right path for my career. I was open to exploring new opportunities, and that’s when HSBC caught my attention.
I had always heard about HSBC – a global, prestigious, and well-regarded bank. It felt like one of those companies you’d be proud to be a part of, and I was intrigued by the potential for growth, diversity, and learning that it could offer. So, I decided to take the leap and applied.
A focus on people
One thing that truly stood out to me during the interview process was how much time they spent understanding my background, my skills, and who I was as a person. They didn’t just see me as a graduate but as someone with valuable qualities – like critical thinking, resilience, and a knack for presenting and reviewing ideas. They even discussed how my background in graphic design could be an asset, despite it being an unconventional starting point for banking. That focus on me as a whole person reassured me that I was making the right choice.
Now, I work as a Digital Sales Manager in the Digital Sales team at HSBC, focusing on a wealth product. My role involves helping on-board new customers and making sure they have the information they need to make informed decisions. It’s rewarding to see the impact of clear, effective communication in helping people feel confident and supported.
A career is not just about the work you do – it’s about the growth, support, and sense of belonging you experience.
A year of discovery
Over the past year, my journey at HSBC has been one of growth, discovery, and support. My manager has been an incredible mentor, encouraging me to lean into my strengths and share my ideas openly. They’ve taught me how to take the skills I learned academically and adapt them to a fast-paced, dynamic environment. From fostering my creativity in HSBC’s communications to embracing critical problem-solving, I feel like I’m building a solid foundation for my career.
What keeps me excited about my role is the constant opportunity to learn – whether it’s about new products, innovative strategies, or working with diverse teams. I’ve even collaborated with institutions like the Emirates Institute of Finance (EIF), which has broadened my perspective even further. At the same time, I’ve had the chance to help HSBC think outside the box, bringing a fresh creative lens to our communications.
A culturally rich career
If there’s one thing that has truly surprised me, it’s how inclusive and culturally rich HSBC is. Working alongside colleagues from Hong Kong and beyond, I’ve experienced first-hand how every culture is celebrated. Simple gestures like acknowledging cultural events create a sense of belonging that is rare and deeply meaningful.
This year at HSBC has shown me that a career isn’t just about what you do – it’s about who you do it with and the journey you take together. For me, it’s been a perfect blend of personal growth, professional challenges, and a sense of pride in being part of something bigger.
