Over the course of eight to ten weeks, you’ll get to:

Work with a mix of Sales and Trading desks to help advise clients on their portfolios
Expand your knowledge of the products within our key asset classes such as Foreign Exchange, Emerging Markets Rates and Commodities; Global Debt Markets; Equities; and Securities Financing
Assist in an analytical project or help to build new tools that support our trading desk

At the end of the internship successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance to our Graduate programme.

We welcome students from all degree disciplines and backgrounds, not just those who’ve studied finance-related degrees, or those who have knowledge of banking.

To join us on this programme, you’ll need to be:

A confident networker who enjoys building relationships
A self-motivated, highly driven individual who welcomes healthy competition
Interested in, and have a basic understanding of, financial products and markets
A clear, concise communicator with a good grasp of Microsoft Excel
Able to identify and summarise key data, and make decisions quickly based on facts

We’ll help you develop the technical skills most relevant to your role. We’ll also provide plenty of opportunities to advance your non-technical skills, like relationship management and collaboration, that will help you move your career forward successfully.

During your time on the programme, you’ll:

Get a comprehensive induction on the behavioural and technical skills you’ll need to succeed in this area of our business.
Be trained on Bloomberg and Reuters terminals, as well as a proprietary suite of HSBC tools
Learn core data analysis and technology skills, as well as how to influence others and manage your time
Discover the various dynamics that drive markets and the correlations these factors, which will help you develop a feeling of what to look for when trading a particular market
Learn how to formulate market views so that you’re comfortable and confident presenting trade ideas and investment solutions
Develop your understanding of the relationships between Sales, Structuring and Trading, and how this works to serve our clients
Boost your knowledge of our Markets business by working alongside teams across asset classes in Trading, Sales, and Middle Office Support Services
Learn how to navigate a large, global organisation, improve your communication skills, and develop your capabilities in a variety of technical areas
Have plenty of other opportunities to develop your behavioural, cognitive and technical skills, plus people to support you along the way, ensuring that you’re well prepared for the future
