Our programmes

We offer different entry routes depending on where you are in your academic career.

Our Internship Programmes typically run for eight to ten weeks and are mainly for students in their penultimate year of undergraduate study. Programmes are available across the different areas of the bank and take place in our major UK locations. They will give you first-hand experience of what it’s like to work for an international bank and prepare you to join our Graduate Programme the following year.

Diversity & Inclusion

At HSBC diversity isn’t a buzzword, it’s essential. That’s why we encourage applications to our programmes from students and graduates of all backgrounds.

We’re committed to working to build a truly inclusive business – opening up a world of opportunity for our people, our customers, and the wider communities we serve.

We value difference

Having a variety of beliefs, upbringings, values and thoughts enables us to open many more doors, and achieve far more, than any of us ever could alone.

Welcoming neurodiversity

We welcome people with different ways of seeing the world.

Our 17 Employee Resource Groups are part of global voluntary networks that bring together colleagues with shared characteristics and common interests.

Our employee networks

Our employees lead eight global networks to promote diversity within the bank. The conversations they have inform the actions we take as an organisation and help us to create a culture where everyone feels included. The employee networks are part of our DNA. The first was founded in London in 1975 (‘Christians in HSBC’) and we now have more than 150 groups all around the world.

Our partnerships

We want our people to better represent the communities we serve. In the UK we partner with a number of organisations who champion the development and career advancement of young talent from underrepresented groups. These include the Stormzy Scholarship Programme, #MERKY Books, 10000 Intern Foundation and Zero Gravity.

Irrespective of your background, we’ll provide a platform that supports your success; from skills sessions before you apply, to providing any necessary adjustments and bespoke support at every stage of the application process via our Candidate Hub.

Creating an impact in society

We are committed to creating long term societal change in the communities where we operate. In the UK this is realised by initiatives such as working towards achieving net zero for us and our clients globally, teaching financial education in UK schools and scout groups, and our strategic partnership with Shelter to help end the cycle of homelessness.

Climate Collaboration

We’re focused on helping to deliver a net zero global economy. It’s a pillar of our strategy as a business.

HSBC UK and Shelter launch new Flagship partnership

Today, HSBC UK and housing and homelessness charity Shelter announced a new multi-year partnership to support the financial health of people and communities during the cost of living crisis and help break the vicious circle of homelessness.
