Sharon Nyabuti
Deputy Relationship Director, Commercial Banking
I joined HSBC on an industrial placement during my university years, never imagining that it would become my professional home. The bank’s reputation for providing diverse opportunities and a supportive culture immediately drew me in.
As I transitioned into the graduate programme, I was exposed to a variety of roles across different departments. This experience allowed me to discover my passion for corporate banking and build a solid foundation of technical skills. One of the most valuable aspects of this programme was the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Working alongside individuals with different perspectives and experiences has not only enriched my professional life but has also helped me to become a more well-rounded individual.
Throughout my career at HSBC, I’ve been fortunate to work with incredibly talented and supportive colleagues. Their mentorship and guidance have been invaluable in my professional development. I’ve always felt encouraged to take on new challenges and pursue my career aspirations. The bank’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning has been instrumental in my growth.
The culture at HSBC has made me feel valued and empowered.
Beyond my professional development, HSBC has also supported me in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The flexibility and understanding I’ve received from my team have allowed me to prioritise both my career and personal commitments. Whether it’s attending a family event or taking time for self-care, I’ve always felt supported in balancing my responsibilities.
One of the aspects of HSBC that I appreciate most is the bank’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. I’ve had the privilege of working in teams with people from various backgrounds, which has broadened my perspective and enriched my experiences. I’ve also had the honour of being a part of Christians in HSBC which is one of the bank’s Employee Resource Groups and this has allowed me to work with colleagues who I would have never interacted with in my roles, and has helped me foster a deep sense of community.
As I look back on my journey at HSBC, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had. The bank not only continues to provide me with a fulfilling career but has also helped me to develop personally and professionally. I’m excited to see what the future holds at HSBC!
