Jonathan Tricoli
Technology Data Graduate
Poland
I studied Digital Management in Italy and graduated just over a year ago. While my studies had some focus on technology, they were largely managerial in nature, allowing me to explore the intersection of business and innovation. Soon after finishing my degree, I enrolled in a master’s programme in Rome, but when the opportunity to join HSBC’s Graduate Programme came along, I decided to pause my studies and take the leap. For me, this felt like the perfect opportunity to grow and challenge myself in a role that aligned with my interests and future goals.
Being part of a bigger picture
My current role is in portfolio management, specifically overseeing tech-related projects within HSBC. It’s not a highly technical position, but it’s one that gives me incredible insight into the bank’s internal workings. I help manage the bank’s tech portfolio, analysing project proposals and assisting in deciding which initiatives receive funding. Essentially, I’m part of the team that ensures we’re prioritising the right projects to drive digital innovation forward.
What excites me most about my job is how dynamic it is. I’m constantly learning and engaging with different departments and projects, which keeps me motivated and curious. Every meeting I attend, I learn something new about the bank’s strategic direction, how decisions are made, and what drives success in this industry. I appreciate that my role isn’t just about numbers or financials – it’s about understanding the bigger picture, which I find both challenging and rewarding.
One of the things that has made my experience so positive so far is my manager. She has over 13 years of experience at HSBC, and from day one, she has been incredibly supportive. She provides regular one-on-one training sessions, and she’s always available to answer questions or help guide me through challenges.
I am comfortable learning and growing without the pressure of feeling like I need to know everything right away.
An international outlook
Before joining HSBC, I had the opportunity to live and work in several different countries, including Estonia, Hungary, and Turkey, in addition to my home country, Italy. These experiences have shaped me, giving me a broad perspective and an openness to new ideas and cultures. Moving to Poland for this role wasn’t something I had planned, but the chance to work with HSBC in a rapidly growing tech hub felt like the right move for my career.
I’m particularly drawn to the idea of digital transformation in the banking industry, and I believe that this role gives me the perfect platform to contribute to that future. I see my department as pivotal to HSBC’s digital strategy ¬– we’re the ones who green-light the projects that will shape the bank’s technological landscape. While I’m still early in my journey, I’m excited for what lies ahead and grateful for the experiences that are already helping me grow both professionally and personally.
