Eve Smith

Digital Marketing Manager, Retail Banking & Wealth Management

What I love about HSBC is how people-focused it is and that the bank fosters a supportive environment. We all have the same mindset here: the people and the team are the most important aspects. The gratitude we have for each other, and our interconnectedness make everyone healthy, happy, and eager to come to work. I manage the retail banking website for our Expat business, and the retail and commercial banking websites for our Channel Islands and Isle of man business. I think what has kept me here and what I found so interesting is just the variety of everything that I get to work on – basically every line of business, every product, every service. I’ve learnt so much during my time here and I feel I get recognised for the work I do.

Every year, Jersey Finance announces the Rising Stars for young individuals in Jersey’s financial sector. In 2023, I was nominated, but I didn’t make the shortlist. In 2024, I was nominated again, made it to the shortlist, and won in the Digital category. Being part of HSBC has helped me expand my network, which likely contributed to winning this award and it’s always gratifying to receive recognition. I’m also grateful for the appreciation I receive from everyone here for just doing my job. That’s often just a simple thank you or in my case being nominated for one of our Extraordinary People Awards which is lovely recognition from your own colleagues. That’s what I like about the culture here at HSBC: they make me feel valued.

Aside from the great culture, I was also surprised by how much HSBC promotes activities beyond work. When I was younger, I thought going to work would mean sitting in front of a laptop looking at spreadsheets. However, we have activities run by our Employee Resources Groups around a lot of different cultural and wellbeing subjects. At HSBC, I’ve also had the opportunity to involve myself in other communities. It’s great to have the chance to volunteer for local charities or even support Pride events, which HSBC is a big sponsor of. It’s a positive and supportive work environment and all of us are working towards the same goals and want the best for each other.
