Five tips for staying cyber safe

Get started on improving your safety online with these five key habits.

  • Share data securely

    When drafting your next email, take a moment to consider how you can share the least amount of information with the fewest amounts of recipients. Where possible, share links to documents to provide more control, over who can access the information.

  • Think before you click

    Before you click on a link or download an attachment, pause for a moment. Is it from a trusted source? Is there an unreasonable sense of urgency? If you receive a suspicious email pretending to be an organisation, contact them using a genuine phone number which can usually be found on the organisation’s official website.

  • Strengthen your passwords

    Create lengthy, memorable passwords and turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) to add an extra level of security. Don’t reuse passwords across different websites.

  • Reduce your digital footprint

    Your activity online leaves a trail behind. Regularly check your privacy settings on social media and be mindful of what personal information you share online.

  • Update your devices

    Update your software, operating systems and apps when prompted. As well as providing new features and better functionality, these updates usually contain security updates.
